Debi Gidley
Encore Performing Arts testing new waters
A marriage of wonderful music and food offered at The Vine

On Tuesday, March 16, Encore Performing Arts will host an exceptional opportunity to hear The Woodwind Quintet, a part of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, and enjoy a fantastic meal at The Vine, 115 N. Michigan in Plymouth. Debi Gidley, executive director of Encore, and the board of directors are testing the waters to determine if this is a new venue Plymouth will endorse. If that's the case, future dates will be scheduled. Just by word of mouth with no advertising, tickets have been selling.
The Woodwind Quintet is part of the South Bend Symphony, performing as an ensemble for schools, libraries, and civic groups. The quintet members are: Leslie Short, flute; Jennet Ingle, oboe; Jason Kramer, bas- soon; Aaron Brant, horn; and Trevor O'Riordan, clarinet.

The Woodwind Quintet's concerts include: Mozart: Overture to the Marriage of Figaro; Brahms: Hungarian Dance #5; Arnold: Three Sea Shanties; Ewazen: Roaring Fork Wind Quintet, Mvt. 1; Ibert: Wind Quintet, Mvt 1; and Farkas: Ugros. These works highlight the variety of instruments in the woodwind quintet.

The venue is limited to 60 guests at a cost of $50 a person. An appetizer buffet consisting of bruschetta, hummus and artichoke dip with a cash bar begins at 6 p.m. Dinner at 6:30 will feature their popular Caesar salad. Chef Doug is offering a menu to entice any palate. Diners will have a choice of Citrus Herb Crusted Tilapia; baked and served with wild rice and vegetable of the day; Italian Stuffed Chicken, a butterflied tomato basil marinated chicken breast stuffed with pesto and fresh mozzarella cheese, topped with a Mediterranean-style cream sauce and served with mashed potatoes and vegetable of the day; or Pasta Primavera with fresh zucchini, tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers and garlic in a white wine reduction.

The performance will begin at 7:30 when diners can enjoy a dessert of crème brule served with coffee.

Gidley will discuss the 'happening' on WTCA's 'What's Your Opinion' show on Friday, March 5.

All tickets need to be purchased in advance; no tickets will be sold at the door. For more information or tickets, call the Encore office at 574-935-4987 or order by mail at the Encore office at the above address.
